Current favorite books that inspire:
Falling Cloudberries, by Tessa Kiros When I was visiting my sister in London, this book spoke to me...right from the shelf! Falling Cloudberries is filled with the recipes that have weaved their way through the life of Tessa Kiros and her family, from the sweets of Scottish gatherings or small bites influenced by her Greek school in South Africa to the rice puddings with rosewater and cinnamon made in a shed by her grandfather and the gravlax with dill prepared by her Finnish mother. In this extensive, world influenced journey across the globe, recipes and stories merge with images of food and the landscape from which it has emerged.
The Kitchen Diaries, by Nigel Slater This was one of my most favorite gifts I received. Nigel Slater presents a yearlong record of his harvesting his yard, shopping, cooking, and entertaining, along with endearing culinary stories.
Bouchon, by Thomas Keller
A collection of exqusite photos, stories and recipes from an
authentic French Bistro, from a chef that seeks perfection in all of his food.
Pork & Sons, by Stephane Raynaud This book is a delightful, affectionate homage to the pig. It is a blend of recipes as well as and travel guide, celebrating the pig and the bounty it provides.
Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver
Part memoir, part journalistic investigation, this book tells the story of how the Kingsolver family was changed by one year of deliberately eating food produced in the place where they live.
Apples for Jam by Tessa Kiros
Another favorite filled with fond food memories, beautiful food photography and a wide variety of recipes from many cultures and traditions.
